Dash '09 Success

The Dash City 2009 North team has competed at various levels, against both boys and girls, and in a variety of competition throughout a successful 2020-21 season. Indoor, futsal, 9v9, and 11v11 were all part of the development pathway provided within the club against some of the best competition at events across the country, including the Plano Labor Day Cup, Veterans Cup, Dallas Texans Fall Festival, Premier Copa and Premier SuperCopa.

In June, the Dash ’09 team capped their season by playing up a level in the U-13 age group (2008 birth year) during the USYS Southern Regional Championships in Greenville, South Carolina. This allowed the players to experience a much more physical level of competition in preparation for competing in the Girls Academy beginning this fall.

"The team played up in the U-13 age group at a standard that exceeded my expectations, and I am extremely proud of them," said head coach Willie Fowlkes. "They have a tremendous future and I look forward to following them as they represent our 2009 age group at the next level in the Girls Academy league."

The experience gained wasn’t just about competing at a higher level but winning as well, as they topped Bracket A with two wins and a draw for 7 points against older competition from Tennessee, North Carolina and Mississippi. The team followed it up with a 2-0 victory over Savannah United Select (GA) in the quarterfinals before falling 1-0 to the eventual U-13 Southern Regional Champions, Team Boca (FL).

“The Southern Regional tournament was so much fun," said Dash ’09 player Baylee Corcoran. "My team and I got to play some of the best teams from the south. I also got to spend a lot of time hanging out with my friends.”

The team-building and experience on and off the field in South Carolina this summer will hopefully serve this rising team well as they continue their development entering the Girls Academy league in the fall.

"Going to the USYS Regionals was a great experience for our daughter. It really showed the level of competition that we should expect to face routinely in the future and gave the team exposure to different types of game strategies," said Mike Lafollette, father of Dash ’09 player Melody. "We are excited that the girls reached the semifinals and are looking forward to continued success. USYS produced a fantastic tournament dealing with weather that created unique challenges to get the games played."

Roster: Avia Hughes, Baylee Corcoran, Bella Rogers, Brooke Atkins, Bryana Molina, Caelyn Moore, Caitlyn Trosclair, Flori Allison, Hallie Montgomery, Harper Montgomery, Jillian Hutchison, Josie Hodgson, Melody LaFollette, Reagan Mermis, Rylee Struyk and Zoe Alami.

Head Coach: Willie Fowlkes.

Team Manager: Elizabeth Moore.

Alumni - Emily Alvarado

Posted on June 24, 2021 BY Samantha Estrada

IMG_3185

Goalkeeper Emily Alvarado, an El Paso, Texas native and Dynamo | Dash Youth alum, is making her presence known at the collegiate and international level. Since graduating from the club, she has gone on to play NCAA Division I soccer with Texas Christian University and is currently playing with the Mexico Women's National Team.

Alvarado is coming off a successful senior campaign with the Horned Frogs during a challenging 2020-21 season, as the world dealt with the Covid-19 pandemic. The 23-year-old started 15 games and allowed just eight goals all year en route to an undefeated conference record.

“It was my best year at TCU and the longest break I’ve ever taken from soccer since I was three years old,” Alvarado said. “It felt good to be back with the team. We came back and played really well during the fall semester and went on to win the Big 12 after going through a difficult time period. It was definitely really tough, but fun. I’m glad we all came together and won the league.”

IMG_3186

After winning the conference title, TCU women’s soccer made history by making the school’s first-ever Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA tournament. In the Sweet 16, TCU scored a late goal against Georgetown to force the match into extra time and then penalties to determine who would move on. Alvarado came up big and stopped two penalties – with a third hitting off the post – to help the Horned Frogs advance. Her performance this year earned a slew of accolades: 1st Team All-American, United Soccer Coaches All-Region Team, and semi-finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy – the most prestigious individual award in college soccer.

Emily described the feeling of becoming an All-American as “one of the most special moments I’ve ever had.

“My coach called me in the middle of the run and I freaked out because everyone gets worried when their coach calls," said Emily.  "All he said was ‘Congratulations’ – I was super confused. ‘You’re an All-American.’

"I literally started crying in that moment because it’s every little girl’s dream to receive that award, and although I’d much rather win championships with my team, it still feels really good to be recognized individually for all the hard work you’ve put in. It was definitely a very special moment that I’ll never forget.”

Alvarado, who also has eight international appearances with the Mexico Women’s National Team, just returned from spending two weeks in Japan with La Tri. The team played friendlies against Japan, and are now preparing for upcoming games against the U.S. on July 1 and 5 in Connecticut. Emily's advice for current Dynamo | Dash Youth players is to "keep working hard and be adaptable. If there's anything I have learned this year, it's that things can change in an instant. The most successful people are adaptable and willing to work hard."
