Freekicks Soccer Initiative 2026

🏆 HTX Soccer joins launch of FREEKICKS Soccer initiative as part of Impact Houston 26 🏆
HTX Soccer is proud to announce its partnership with FREEKICKS Soccer, a new legacy initiative launched by the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Houston Host Committee, to expand access to organized soccer through 23 new and refurbished soccer fields across Houston and Harris County.
As part of Impact Houston 26, FREEKICKS is a long-term effort that's focused on ensuring this summer’s World Cup leaves a lasting and meaningful legacy in Houston. By investing in new and improved playing facilities, the initiative will create more opportunities for young players to access safe, high-quality environments where they can develop their skills and passion for the game.
HTX Soccer is honored to be one of five youth clubs selected to help operate programming at these locations. Alongside four other local clubs, HTX Soccer will bring structured training and organized soccer directly to underserved youth in our community.
Together, the clubs will invest an estimated $1.5 million into facility maintenance, program operations, and scholarship commitments. This investment will provide more than 1,200 scholarships annually, ensuring young players can continue to grow their love of the sport without the burden of financial barriers.
“Youth soccer in the U.S. is largely a pay-to-play sport, creating financial barriers for many families,” said Chris Canetti, President of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Houston Host Committee. “FREEKICKS Soccer is our commitment to breaking down those barriers, expanding access to the game, and inspiring the next generation of players across Houston. With 23 refurbished fields placed in areas of need, and five reputable clubs bringing organized soccer to these areas and offering scholarship opportunities to the nearby youth population, we are bridging the gap to provide more access to the game.”
“I find the best way to enjoy your job is to match your skill set with your passion. Our skill set is teaching the game of soccer and the life lessons that come with participating in sport," said Randy Evans, Technical Director. "Our passion is to make a positive impact on peoples lives. The FREEKICKS initiative is a perfect fit, and we eager to get started.”
HTX Soccer remains committed to developing players on and off the field while serving the broader Houston community. Through this partnership, HTX is excited to be part of the positive growth of the game in our region, ensuring that soccer remains accessible to players of all backgrounds.
